People gathered inside the Aemilianum Gymnasium for a mass in honor for the departure of St. Jerome's relic
Sorsogon City, Philippines- On the 30th of July, the Aemilianum College Inc. along with the Diocese of Sorsogon held a mass at the school's gymnasium. From Preschool to College and faculty staff, all attended to see the relic before it will go on a long voyage to Cebu in the Central Visayas Region.
How did it get here....
From Italy it took a big amount of Euros to transfer a small piece of relic from Venice to Philippines. It is suppose to be his chains but the Government of Italy rejected the favor because it is considered to be national treasure of Italy.
The
relic: a piece from the past
A relic is a
part of the body of a saint or a venerated person; it can be classified up to 3
classes. First class comes from their bodies (e.g. bones, hair), Second class
comes from the things that they use everyday (e.g. dress, staff, shoes) and the
last the Third class comes from things they touched like for example walls.
In this case, the one
that visited Sorsogon is a First class. It is said to be either his collar bone
or his pelvis. It is so small it can’t be capture in camera without zooming it.
Emiliani
to Aemilians
Aemilianum College, a school in the west district of
the city is the official home of the relic while it was in the Province.
