St. Jerome's Grandure Apperance

Mass held in A.C.I. for St. Jerome's Departure
People gathered inside the Aemilianum Gymnasium for a mass in honor for the departure of St. Jerome's relic

Sorsogon City, Philippines- On the 30th of July, the Aemilianum College Inc. along with the Diocese of Sorsogon held a mass at the school's gymnasium. From Preschool to College and faculty staff, all attended to see the relic before it will go on a long voyage to Cebu in the Central Visayas Region.

 How did it get here....

From Italy it took a big amount of Euros to transfer a small piece of relic from Venice to Philippines. It is suppose to be his chains but the Government of Italy rejected the favor because it is considered to be national treasure of Italy.

The relic: a piece from the past

St. Jerome Emiliani's relic (inside the glass pendant in the chest of the wooden model of the said saint)

A relic is a part of the body of a saint or a venerated person; it can be classified up to 3 classes. First class comes from their bodies (e.g. bones, hair), Second class comes from the things that they use everyday (e.g. dress, staff, shoes) and the last the Third class comes from things they touched like for example walls.
In this case, the one that visited Sorsogon is a First class. It is said to be either his collar bone or his pelvis. It is so small it can’t be capture in camera without zooming it.
Emiliani to Aemilians

Aemilianum College, a school in the west district of the city is the official home of the relic while it was in the Province.

                              Official Seal Of Aemilianum College
St. Jerome is the school’s patron saint and in tribute for the relic’s visit and his last day in Sorsogon a mass live on tv was attended by all Students. This is a once-in-a life time experience to all since they will all meet the piece which makes their patron saint a whole.

Nutrition Month in the eyes of the youth

Nutrition Month in the eyes of the youth

Poster making, a annual event during nutrition month in every school across the nation.

Every 7th month of the year the government's health department  and most of the schools across the nation celebrate the Nutrition month but how does young and the youth understand this special annual event?

This years theme…..

''Pagkain ng gulay ugaliin, araw-araw itong ihain''
In English "Eating vegetables should be practice and to be served everyday" is this years nutrition month theme it basically means that eating vegetables should be eaten everyday so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

So how does the youth understand this... well basically they think that the goverment wants them to eat the said food group everyday to where it is considered as a same equal level to rice which many of us cannot live without.

Many others disagree with the theme today because the other food groups hold other important nutrients to which the veggie doesn't have. My colleague even said to me that it should be “ISKARGU” an acronym that means ISda, KArne, GUlay (in english fish, meat, vegetables respectably) in order to have proper nutrition.

chopsuey, a famous veggie dish which meat can be ommitted if wanted

HOW CAN THIS AFFECT A YOUTH’S BODY?

If you’re a vegetarian you may be immune to this but if you are a meat-lover you’re not, in the possibility of having “veggie fatigue”. As much as you can have more, you can’t have much because our bodies do need other things like protein, iodine, fats and oils(yes, but not too much) and others that can be found in poultry and other sea foods.

Plus as an mid-age adult you may know this that some veggies has some limitations like for example, beans, too much of that and the result of that will be piles of health problems like arthritis, kidney stones, gallstones, hypertension (for peeps who don’t get, it’s simply high blood) and forgot to mention you can also emit a much more worse gas from your backside (and nobody wants that).

HOW SHOULD THE YOUTH MAINTAIN HIS/HER PROPER NUTRITION?

Too much something can kill you and that’s a fact, you must follow what is required at your age though it’s okay to follow the chart (e.g. the food pyramid) but you should remember to follow what your body needs and another thing your looks came from what you eat.

St.Jerome Emiliani

St. Jerome Emiliani: A Different Kind of Saint

Born in Venice in 1486, the youngest of four brothers, Jerome Emiliani went through an adventurous youth. In 1531 he decided to abandon any military, political, and economical career. Though a layman, he dedicated himself to a unique mission: to share his life with the poor and to build a community with homeless children. His Christian experience took shape inside the Catholic Reformation through the movement of the Divine Love, under the guidance of such illustrious people as Cajetan Thiene (Founder of the Theatines), and John Peter Carafa (Pope Paul IV).
As a member of the Confraternity of the Divine Love, Jerome became a valuable organizer of the works of Charity in Venice (the Hospital of the Incurables and the Shop of St. Rocco). The fame gained in this field took him through the cities of Northern Italy such as Verona, Vicenza, Brescia, Bergamo, Milan, Como, and Pavia. The Bishops of these towns invited Jerome to organize works of mercy in their dioceses.
Around Jerome a group of cooperators started to take shape and some of them decide to take up his lifestyle. Consequently the "Company of the Servants of the Poor" was born. Today, it is called the Congregation of the Somascan Fathers and Brothers. Jerome died in Somasca, February 8, 1537, after having contracted the plague from the sick he was assisting during the epidemic. It was his last supreme gesture of love, according to the command of the Lord to lay down one's life for the others.
